Koh Kood island in the Gulf of Thailand is one of the five largest islands in Thailand. At the same time, it is Koh Kood hat is the least populated island, the beaches of which have preserved all their natural beauty and charm. Koh Kood is located near Cambodia in the southeastern part of Thailand and there are only 2,000 permanent residents. Today there are several ways to get to Koh Kood from Bangkok and below on the page you will find information about transport, its timetable and cost, as well as an alternative way of getting to Koh Kood from the Thai capital.
Transfer Bangkok – Koh Kood
This is probably the easiest and fastest way to get to Koh Kood from Bangkok without worries. Transfer Bangkok – Koh Kood consists of three stages. The first one – is moving from Bangkok in a comfortable minibus to the ferry pier in the province of Trat. The second stage is a ferry to Koh Kood on a modern speed catamaran. The third stage is delivery to the door of your hotel on the island of Koh Kood by local taxi. All connections are guaranteed and you don’t have to worry about being late for the ferry. Koh Kood Island is the farthest Thai island on the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand. Therefore, the whole journey from Bangkok to Koh Kood takes 7-8 hours (depending on the departure time).
As a rule, there are three transfers daily from two transport companies. The first option is offered by Boonsiri. The first branded minibus of this company leaves Bangkok at 05:00 in the morning and allows you to arrive at Koh Kood at noon. Boonsiri’s second minibus is more suitable for those who prefer to sleep longer in Bangkok. In this case, the minibus leaves from Bangkok at 07:30 in the morning and allows you to arrive on Koh Kood island until 16:00. The transfer fee does not depend on the departure time from Bangkok and is 900 THB. This price includes water and snacks. The current transfer schedule, its cost and availability for your dates, you can always on the website of the smart search for transport in Asia (link to the desired route, English version of the service).
The Boonsiri minibus boarding point in Bangkok is The Street Hostel, located on 62 Ta Nee Road (see map). You will receive the detailed coordinates of the landing point in the voucher after payment. This street is located in the historical district of Bangkok, in the area of the famous Khao San Rd. Given that there are no underground or surface metro stations in this area of the city, it is easiest to spend the night somewhere nearby. I could recommend the same The Street Hostel for the night before the transfer, but it is very popular and it is not easy to reserve places in this hostel. At the same time, there are always many other options for budget housing in the area and with the help of a smart hotels search you can always choose the best option.
The second transport company is called SuperJet and allows you to get from Bangkok to the island of Koh Kood for the same price – 900 THB. At the same time, the landing place on the minibus is Victory Monument Square (southeast corner). On the one hand, this place has good transport accessibility thanks to the nearby BTS SkyTrain station. But since the minibus from Bangkok leaves at 05:00 in the morning, and you must arrive at the pick-up point earlier, you can’t use the SkyTrain because it doesn’t work at night. As a result, you must either use a taxi or spend the night in the Victory Monument area. By the way, in my previous article Santiphap Park in Bangkok I just gave links to good hotels, because this park is located 5 minutes walk.
The rest of the transfer is very similar to the previous one: a minibus to the pier in the province of Trat, a 45-minute ferry ride to Koh Kood island and a taxi to the hotel door. All connections on the route are guaranteed and you will arrive at your hotel on the island at 13:30 (the best time to check into your room). This option has only one drawback – it is very popular and there are no empty seats for many dates. Therefore, when using the smart search for transport in Asia, you can only see an option from Boonsiri (for a trip from Koh Mak Island to Bangkok for some reason there is no such problem).
How to get from Koh Kood to Bangkok (2 options)
Getting to Bangkok with Koh Kood is also easy. For this you can use return transfers from Boonsiri and Superjet. In the first case, your path will also consist of three stages and will not cause problems. A taxi will pick you up from any hotel on the island of Koh Kood and take you to the pier of this island. Next, you will make your way to the mainland pier on a high-speed catamaran. Finally, the Boonsiri minibus takes you to the Khao San Road area in Bangkok. If you wish, you can leave the bus along the way if it passes by the area of interest to you in the capital. The transfer fee of Koh Kood Bangkok is also 900 THB. At the same time, the departure time from the hotel on the island of Koh Kood is at 08:00 and 10:00, and the duration of the trip is 8-9 hours.
The second option to get to Bangkok from the island of Koh Kood is to use a transfer from SuperJet. This option also includes a taxi from the hotel, a ferry to the mainland pier and a minibus to Bangkok. But there are differences: not a catamaran is used, but the proprietary SuperJet high-speed ferry. Despite its large size, the ferry is very modern and has a high speed. Due to this, the transfer duration is also 8 hours. This option has an advantage: in Bangkok you will be delivered to Victory Monument. Nearby there is the BTS SkyTrain underground station of the same name. About 750 meters away is Phaya Thai BTS Station, from which City Line trains leave for Suvarnabhumi Airport. The cost is the same – 900 THB, and you can check the availability of seats using the smart search for transport in Asia (link to the Koh Kood – Bangkok route).
Thus, you can use several transfers daily from Bangkok to Koh Kood and back. Alternatives include a trip from Bangkok to Koh Chang and the use of local boats to travel to Koh Kood. The option is more complex and more long in time. You can also try to get to the city of Trat, use local transport to the pier on the mainland and buy a ferry ticket at the pier. Given that a regular ferry ticket costs 500 THB one way and does not include taxi transfers to the hotel (+100 THB per person), the option is complicated and disadvantageous. Enjoy your trip and have a good rest on Koh Kood.
